Speaking of Combat...
I have lost the war with the rats in my attic. They have completely taken over my house! I've been doing my best to catch the existing ones and seal up the house from new ones getting in.
Unfortunately, they are much smarter than I am. During the past couple of weeks they have chewed through gym bags and backpacks and boxes and done a lot of damage. The last straw came on Tuesday when I came home from work to find that they had eaten through one side of my beautiful bird cage to get at the food inside. I patched it up the best I could with intentions to buy a new cage the next day. When I got home with the new cage I found the whole front of the cage was eaten as well.
Murphy (my canary) is now safe in his new cage (I hope) and I called up a rodent removal/provention service that was recommended by one of the readers of this blog. They are going to check the situation on Monday and give me an estimate for their services. I know it's going to be over $500 but at this point I don't have a choice. I need to take my house back from these freakin rats!!!

OMFG! Nick! Those rat bastards! I'm so scared for Murphy! I hope you get rid of them soon. I know it's expensive but it will be worth it to keep everyone safe. I'll bet those rats are also bringing the fleas in! Good luck.

Double OMG! After you get them under control, and I know Murphy is a big concern, but you should really look into getting a cat. As I mentioned before, I had the same problem.

My friends in AZ had the same problems with RATS. The damn fruit trees were the food source for those fuckers. Eliminate the food source and the rats will leave. Imagine you have them in your attic. Good luck.

A big Tom cat is a good idea, if it gets along with your precious doggie. Careful that the exterminators don't put down poison that could harm Cynder either. How about a metal cage???

You know Alberta Canada is completely rat free if you dont count George Bush's recent visit. But seriously -- it is the largest rat free zone in the world even though both provinces on either side and Montana to the south are infested with the buggers. We spend millions each year to keep them from invading the province, so move here.
We do have mice though-- and I am afraid of them.
For some reason the combination of the Naked Kombat part of this post with the rats in the attic part makes me think of that old "Sylvester" cartoon. The one where Junior, the kitten is being taught how to catch mice.
A kangaroo has escaped from a crate bound for a zoo, and winds up in the attic (or basement maybe). Junior only ever sees the mouse but Sylvester only finds the "giant mouse" and gets clobbered.
I think it was "I have lost the war with the rats in my attic." That brought it to mind. ;o{)
I saw a representation of "rat torture" in a wax museum once when I was a little kid. I was never particularly fond of rats anyway but they've REALLY freaked me out ever since.
